Aimee Mann brings her optimistic take on drifters, no-hopers and eccentrics to Manchester.

The sleepy-voiced singer-songwriter is still best known through her connection with the film Magnolia (starring Tom Cruise and Julianne Moore). The soundtrack, drawn almost exclusively from her songs, and her corresponding release Batchelor No. 2 earned her an Oscar nomination, a Golden Globe and three Grammy awards.

However, conventional or not, Smilers displays all the qualities that have made Aimee Mann so popular. Lyrical stories of eccentrics and drifters merge with tales of self destruction, all told with her trademark wit and infectious melodies. An unusual talent, Aimee Mann is definitely worth seeing.
