Anne Frank and You at Manchester Cathedral 3rd - 29th September

Archived: This event was in 2009.
A free multi-media exhibition gives you the chance to get closer to one of World War 2's most famous casualties.
The story of Anne Frank has fascinated readers for over sixty years. A young Jew in Amsterdam during WW2, Anne kept a diary documenting her experiences as her family was forced to go into hiding to escape the Nazis. Now a new exhibition at Manchester Cathedral will give audiences the chance to explore her story in an entirely new way as it draws parallels between her diary and the concerns of teenagers living in the 21st century.
The exhibition includes a near-life-sized replica of Anne's bedroom in the Secret Annexe, a hidden complex within her father's office block where she lived with her family and four other people for two years before they were discovered by the Nazis. Visitors can also explore the Anne Frank photo album, replica artefacts from Anne's life and the Holocaust and a virtual tour of the entire Secret Annexe complex. There will also be an exhibition exploring the plight of today's teenagers, covering issues such as racism, child soldiers, and the debate around wearing religious symbols.
Anne Frank and You will leave you feeling humbled, inspired and aware of how much work there is still to be done to ensure today's teenagers can live their lives free of the effects of prejudice and racism.
