Manchester International Festival has announced the launch of The Manchester Open, which invites local professional artists and arts organisations to apply for three commissions of up to £100,00.
The Manchester Open is a new commissioning initiative open to practitioners of any artistic discipline, as individuals or groups, by artists on their own or together with curators or producers, for any medium. The only stipulation is that applicants either live or work in the Manchester city boundaries.
The three winning proposals (which can be for either an existing or 'found' site) will be given a budget of up to £100,000 and will be produced by Manchester International Festival as part of the 2009 or 2011 Festivals.
Winners will be chosen by a panel including filmmaker and artist Steve McQueen, Mancunian legend Peter Saville and Manchester International Festival Directer Alex Poots alongside other influential figures from across Manchester's cultural industries.
In 2007, the inaugural Manchester International Festival took place to huge critical acclaim. The festival featured shows from artists such as Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, Johnny Vegas, Mikhail Rudy, Kanye West, Lou Reed, Matthew Barney and Carlos Acosta.
The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm, Febrary 1st 2008. For more information, visit the Manchester International Festival website.
