Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson alight to Manchester’s biggest venue for an evening of cultural refinement, elegance and duck-billed platypuses…
When Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson first collaborated on this spectacular cultural extravaganza, the musical world was rocked to its very foundations. After all, Sir Les Patterson has been a leading figure in the Australian cultural sector for many years, taking such important positions as Chair of the Australian Cheese Board and Minister for Sport (with special responsibility to keep sport heterosexual and blokey).
And who could fail to love Dame Edna? This national treasure has come a long way from her humble beginnings as a housewife. Armed only with a barrage of catchphrases and some rather spectacular glasses, Dame Edna now regularly rubs shoulders with world leaders.
So it is with great excitement that we can reveal that Last Night of the Poms is to be revived and shown in the UK for the very first time. The show is complete with Sir Les Patterson’s Peter and The Shark, a searing and challenging interpretation of Prokofiev’s Peter and The Wolf featuring Peter as a bronzed surfer on a piccolo trumpet, his friend as a laughing kookaburra on a soprano sax and the duck as a duck-billed platypus on a bassoon.
With music written, conducted and arranged by world-renowned conductor Carl Davis and Barry Humphries’ characters accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, this show combines comedy with the highest quality of classical music.
