Beyonce at MEN Arena 27th May 2009
In Gigs
Archived: This event was in 2008.
Beyonce comes to the city for a huge stadium show this May.
We could give you a potted history of Beyonce Knowles career to date, but it would be completely redundant. No other female recording artist has a profile to beat this former Destiny’s Child since her decision to go solo saw her release two multi-platinum albums, star in a number of films including the Golden Globe-nominated Dream Girls and even release her own fashion label. Everything this woman touches turns to gold.
Anticipation, therefore, is extremely high for her forthcoming third album. Her new double-disc album, I Am… Sasha Fierce, represents a departure for the RnB star. The CD entitled Sasha Fierce sees a string of surefire hits representing her confident, uber-successful stage persona through uptempo dance tracks which follow up on the promise of past hits such as Crazy In Love and Naughty Girl. The other CD, entitled I Am…, draws on a whole new sphere of influence, bringing in folk music, acoustic numbers and heartfelt ballads with revealingly emotional lyrics.
The I Am… Sasha Fierce tour will be the first time UK fans will have the chance to see material from the new album live, and Beyonce’s previous appearaces in the city are anything to go by this could be the gig of the year. Previous shows have seen full 10-piece bands onstage, crowds of backing dancers, costume changes, spectacular production and the occasional appearance from special guests such as husband Jay-Z.
