Blur at MEN Arena 26th June
In Gigs
Archived: This event was in 2009.
After the shock news that Blur were reuniting, they have now announced a special one-off gig in Manchester.
When Blur announced that they were reforming they gave rise to a media frenzy. Though the group had had a hiatus before between 1999 and 2002 so that the band members could work on solo projects (most notably Damon Albarn’s animated supergroup Gorillaz), the band quietly fell apart after Graham Coxon walked away during the recording of their fifth album, Think Tank in 2002.
Since then, each of the band members have gone on to achieve great things on their own terms: Damon Albarn as an avant-guarde musician and the acclaimed creator of Chinese circus opera Monkey: Journey To The West; Alex James as a leading newspaper columnist and ‘foodie’; Dave Rowntree as an animator, politician and trainee barrister; and Graham Coxon as a solo artist who has released six albums to date and has, most recently, been working closely with Pete Doherty.
Despite all these achievements, fans have continued to chase the dream of a Blur reunion and the news that they were to play a one-off comeback gig in Hyde Park gave rise to a show that sold out in minutes. In response to the demand they have now announced they will play a handful of other shows, with the Manchester Evening News Arena show spearheading their appearances in the north.
With songs such as Parklife, Song 2, The Universal and Country House all sure to get audiences on their feet, this show will leave you smiling for days. Get tickets now!
