Bonachela Dance Company at The Lowry 3rd November
In Dance
Archived: This event was in 2009.
Rafael Bonachela's outstanding dance company make a rare appearance in the north west.
Since its inception in 2006, Bonachela Dance Company have only performed two programmes choreographed by Bonachela himself – Voices, which was nominated for a Critic's Circle Award for Outstanding Repertoire and Square Map of Q4, which was commissioned to open the 2008 Venice Bienniale.
So the news that the company is to tour a brand new programme, The Land of Yes and the Land of No, has caused high excitement across dance audiences. The piece channels Bonachela's interest in the physical and emotional impulses of the body through the prism of the commands each of us encounter on a daily basis from external forces, set to a special composition by contemporary composer Ezio Bosso.
Rafael Bonachela is widely considered to be one of the most promising choreographers working today. After 14 years with the Rambert Dance Company he went solo and currently works as the Artistic Director of the Sydney Dance Company, Artist in Residence at the Southbank Centre and also as an Associate Artist at Dance East. He formed Bonachela Dance Company in 2006, combining a group of international, world class dancers with a team of collaborators including designer Alan Macdonald, Ione Saizar, Guy Hoare and Theo Clinkard.
