Cabaret at The Lowry 22nd to 27th June

Archived: This event was in 2009.
Divine decadence hits The Lowry in this dazzler of a show.
When Cliff, an American writer, moves into a Berlin boarding house for the summer he is immediately bewitched by his neighbour Sally Bowles. Carefree, headstrong and enchanting, she introduces him to the world of the notorious Kit Kat Klub where she performs in the cabaret every night.
But this is 1931 and beneath the sequins and laughter of the cabaret lies something far darker. As Cliff becomes inextricably involved with Sally and her world of divine decadence, he discovers just how far from home he is…
The play achieved world-famous status after the 1966 film starring Liza Minelli and Michael Yorke, with choreography by the incredible Bob Fosse. Samantha Barks, the extremely popular runner up from the hit BBC talent show I’d Do Anything, now takes the role of Sally Bowles, joined by Wayne Sleep who reprises his role as Emcee.
With hit songs such as Maybe This Time, Money Makes The World Go Round and Mein Herr, Cabaret remains one of the greatest musicals of all time. Get tickets now!

Cabaret
By j platton
Well what can I say, had the most boring night ever watching Cabaret at the Lowry Theatre. The couple next to me left in the interval, said to much talking and not enough singing. Samantha Barkes is an average singer and has no dancing skills whatsoever. Wayne Sleep is well past it and gave a poor performance. I am a great fan of the film Cabaret and although wouldn't expect the same level of performance, they could have done a lot better. Also, why all the nudes!!!
Very Disappointing

We were at this show last night (24 June). It was extremely disappointing. Wayne Sleep hardly danced. He had a substitute come on to dance for him at one point. If he was injured there should have been an announcement beforehand. If this is normal, it is not what I had expected of Wayne Sleep's billing. Samantha Barkes is weak. Her acting is unconvincing and her dancing skills minimal. At the end of the show, the vast majority of the cast seemed totally dejected. The experience cost us £58 for 2 tickets - a total waste of money.
