Da Vinci – The Genius at Museum of Science and Industry, 14th November 2009 – 13th June 2010
In Culture
The world's most comprehensive and inspirational exhibition about Leonardo Da Vinci arrives in Manchester.
Leonardo Da Vinci is arguably the greatest genius the world has ever seen. Alongside the spectacular Mona Lisa, Da Vinci created an incredible array of paintings and sculptures and his anatomical and technological studies were centuries ahead of his time. Little remains of this work and much of what does remain is stored in museums and galleries around the world – too precious, even, to be on display.
Da Vinci – The Genius has been co-curated by Grande Exhibitions and The Anthropos Association (creators of Il Genio di Leonardo da Vinci Museo in Rome) and brings together the work of Da Vinci with the latest in cutting-edge technology. The exhibition has already shown in America, Singapore and Canada to huge international acclaim and will be arriving in Manchester this November, giving English audiences their first opportunity to explore Da Vinci's genius in an entirely new light.
Da Vinci – The Genius is home to the Secrets of Mona Lisa exhibition. French artist and scientific engineer Pascal Cotte has developed a 240millin pixel camera to photograph the painting, revealing 25 secrets of the world's most famous painting. The images taken with Cotte's camera have been used to create the world's only 360 degree replica of the painting in full 1506 colour.
The exhibition comprises original works such the Anguiari Battle preparatory drawings, reproductions of works such as Da Vinci's anatomical drawings and iconic Vitruvian Man, and large scale interactive machines created by modern-day Italian artisans based on Da Vinci's codices. There are also over 30 3D animations of works by the artist, including his painting the Last Supper and the Great Sforza Horse sculpture.
This is an unparalleled opportunity to gain insight into the life, times and works of possibly the greatest genius the world has ever seen. Get tickets today!
