Enduring Hollywood - The Photography of Frank Worth - 2nd Feb to 2nd March
In Art
Archived: This event was in 2009.
A new exhibition of previously unseen photography from the golden era of Hollywood comes to Manchester.
As a freelance photographer during the golden age of Hollywood, Frank Worth befriended many of the stars he snapped at parties, on movie sets and at play. He took photos of Hollywood legends, including Sophia Loren, James Dean, Charlton Heston, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor, whose first wedding he photographed. He was said to have had a relationship with both Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe, although he only confessed to an affair with Monroe just before he died.
It was only when Frank passed away in 2000, penniless, were his photographs discovered in his dilapidated LA apartment. A body of work described by London auction house Christie's as "The most extraordinary collection of its kind in the past 50 years".
Enduring Hollywood is being shown at the Generation Pop Art Gallery, New York St, Manchester.
