Estelle At Manchester Academy 28th November 2008
In Gigs
Quickly becoming the first lady of British nu-soul, Estelle makes a date with Manchester Academy.
When Estelle was awarded the Best Newcomer Award at the 2004 MOBOs, she was not as delighted as you might expect. After all, she was hardly a newcomer – she had already been awarded the Best Female Act at the UK Hip Hop Awards three years in a row and was well-established as a leading voice on the UK hip hop scene. However, it was not until her tune 1980 was picked up by the major radio stations that she began to become a household name.
Following the success of her album, Estelle took a well-deserved trip to LA. Stopping for a quick bite to eat at Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles, the singer found herself face to face with none other than Kanye West. Within a matter of months Estelle was getting ready to record the album that would launch her as an international star.
Her album Shine features collaborations with John Legend, Wyclef Jean, Cee-Lo Green and Mark Ronson, as well as the #1 single American Boy, featuring Kanye West. The combination of pop, soul, hip hop and reggae has won her a whole new fanbase and made the critics extremely excited. And how better to find out what all the fuss is about than to see her live?
