Exciting opportunity for professional artists

The Lowry Galleries have announced that they are now accepting applications for the first of three commissions to be awarded as part of the Transformations Project.
The project, funded by the Esmee Fairbarn Foundation, will award three commissions worth a total of £60,000 over three years. Supported and given time and funding to experiment and develop new approaches to their work, artists will finally create site specific work to be displayed in the Promenade Gallery.
Bill Longshaw, (curator of Myth of the North at The Lowry) had one of his first major breaks in the space in 2004, and says “The great thing about the Promenade is its scale. The sheer height of the walls lend themselves into being transformed into buildings, or the side of a ship, or anything! The other quality of the space is its light and the way it links the inside and the outside of the building, allowing what’s on the inside to merge with the docks, the water and the city beyond.”
The deadline for submission is Friday 7th September. For more information and details of how to apply, click here or write to Mark Doyle, Exhibitions Programmer, The Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays, M50 3AZ.
