Children have two festive treats in store at the Royal Exchange Studio Theatre.
Critically-acclaimed young people’s theatre group Tangere Arts presents Hood in the Wood and A Tasty Tale in The Studio. Innovative re-workings of Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel, both featuring live music, lots of laughs and scary bits that will entertain everyone aged seven and over.
Hood in the Wood is the story of the girl Red who sets off to Granny’s house deep in the middle of the woods. But what about the dangers that lurked there? The darkness? The creatures of the night? And not forgetting the famous wolf? Did he really exist?
In A Tasty Tale two hungry children are abandoned in the woods by their mother and father. After thinking they are well and truly lost, they stumble across a delicious house made of gingerbread and a beautiful witch who has ulterior motives. As they fight to survive, Hansel finds he’s not as brave as he boasts he is, however Gretel finds she is bolder than she thought she could be.
It is a welcome return for Hood in the Wood which played to packed houses when the company visited the Royal Exchange earlier in the year.
Hood in the Wood and A Tasty Tale are written by acclaimed playwright Noël Greig and feature resident actor Gary Lagden, music by nationally renowned composer Lewis Gibson and are directed by David Johnston.
Both productions will run for approximately 60 minutes each and both performances are followed by an interactive workshop offering the whole audience the chance to create sounds, make music and tell tales!
