The Library Theatre continues its current season with the north-west regional premiere of Irish dramatist Brian Friel’s touching and moving drama, Faith Healer.

Irish faith healer Frank Hardy travels round the quiet backwaters of rural Scotland and Wales dispensing his powers in draughty halls to folk with a desperate range of illnesses. A tormented man, always with a bottle of whiskey at his side, Frank is accompanied by his devoted and loving wife Grace, and also his sweet-talking manager Teddy, a man with a tongue as smooth as his dress sense.

Their three-way professional relationship has been strong and steady for 20 years, but as they reminisce on their time together, a terrible secret which has been hidden away in the deep and distant past, a secret about which Frank, Grace, and Teddy have a very different recollection, comes to the fore in a most intense and poignant manner.

The production will be directed by the Library’s Associate Director, Roger Haines, whose previous Brian Friel productions at the Library include Translations, which won the coveted Best Production award at the prestigious Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards in 2003. He will be leading an experienced cast featuring Ged McKenna (last seen playing Sid James in BBC4's acclaimed biopic Fantabulosa!) as Frank, Stella Madden as Grace and Kim Durham, in his first role at the Library Theatre in 12 years following a long stint as Matt Crawford on The Archers, in the role of Teddy.
