Harold Brighouse's charming Salford-based comedy returns to the region in a new production starring John Savident.
Set in Salford in Victorian England, Hobson's Choice tells the hilarious story of cantankerous and obstinate boot shop owner Henry Horatio Hobson. Hobson, a widower with a fondness for a drink, tries to get the better of his three 'uppish' daughters, by decreeing 'no marriages' to avoid the expense of a dowry. Eldest daughter Maggie rebels and sets her sights on her father's master bootmaker – the exceedingly shy Will Mossop.
One of the country's most popular and versatile actors, John Savident, brings Henry Hobson magnificently to life. Best known to audiences as Fred Elliott in Coronation Street, his many credits also include Saint Joan and The Beggar's Opera at the National Theatre and the films Remains of the Day and A Clockwork Orange.
