Jamie T at Manchester Academy 1 13th October

In Gigs

Archived: This event was in 2009.

Jamie T

Jamie T touches down in Manchester with a gig at Academy 1.

Back in 2007, when Lily Allen, Kate Nash and the LDN scene dominated the charts, you could have been forgiven for thinking Jamie T was just another Londoner with a nice line in cockney observation and a talented PR team behind him.

But to think this is to miss the point entirely. Jamie T's first album was a scrappy, bolshy, beautiful record, and he combined everything from indie and ska through to hip hop and folk with the skill of a musical alchemist. Throw in a talent for lyrics that puts him on the same footing as Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner or The Streets' Mike Skinner and it is easy to see why the album picked up both Mercury nominations and the NME Best Album gong by the end of 2007.

His second album has been a long time coming, but a low key show at Moho Live earlier this year proved that he's still got the magic touch. After the success of singles Sheila and Calm Down Dearest, new album Kings and Queens is set for great things - don't miss the chance to see Jamie T in action this October.
