Kasabian at Manchester Evening News Arena 20th November

In Gigs

Archived: This event was in 2009.

Kasabian

Kasabian return to Manchester for a huge stadium gig.

Kasabian seem to have adopted Manchester as a second home this year. After taking over Manchester Academy for an intense and intimate show at the end of June, the band have just announced they are to return to the city in November as they their sights on the Manchester Evening News Arena.

If critics would have been justified in wondering whether the band could pull off a gig in the 17,000 capacity arena at the start of 2009, there's no room for such questions now. This summer has seen them not only unleash their combination of solid guitar riffs, big beats and dark undertones on Glastonbury's massive Pyramid Stage but also whip up crowds to fever pitch at Heaton Park as the support for Oasis.

The gig celebrates their third album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, which held the #1 spot on the UK Album chart until Michael Jackson's death cancelled all chart bets at the end of June. The album takes the band into darker, more diverse territory as they juggle krautrock, glam-rock and eastern strings influences alongside the heavy beats and guitars that dominate their first two albums. And if West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum hasn't quite got under your skin yet (believe us, it will have done by November), Kasabian's explosive back catalogue is sure to be there in all its glory too.
