Previously unknown in the UK, her single ‘I Kissed a Girl’ took the number one spot in the charts bith in the UK and in 20 other countries, filling airwaves across the world with its gleeful refrain ‘I kissed a girl and I liked it’.

Both ‘I Kissed A Girl’ and its forerunner ‘UR So Gay’ have sparked controversy, with critics labelling Perry homophobic and misandric. However, the gay community itself seems to have taken her to its bosom, with ‘I Kissed a Girl’ being played in gay bars and clubs across the country.
