Noisettes at Manchester Ritz 20th October
In Gigs
Archived: This event was in 2009.
One of the UK's hottest new bands gets set to play the Ritz.
Over the last 15 years, the UK charts have been dominated by rock and indie. Beginning with the infectiously optimistic takeover of Britpop in the mid-nineties, the energy of bands like Blur, Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene eventually gave way to a bloated procession of sound-alike bands fronted by almost exclusively male singers of two kinds – either hangdog, earnest blokes in cardigans or pretty boys sporting skinny jeans and a swagger.
So it is no wonder that we've taken Noisettes to our collective bosom. Fronted by the impossibly beautiful, fantastically named Shingai Shoniwa, Noisettes mix the beats of garage rock and the energy of electro pop with vocals that bring to mind Grace Jones and Amy Winehouse in equal measure. Despite their recent breakthrough into the mainstream they have already notched up performances alongside Muse, Babyshambles and Bloc Party and their live shows have a reputation for being unpredictable, wild and cheerfully irreverent.
If you loved their recent hit single Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go), get tickets for this gig now. By October, Noisettes are going to be huge.
