Opera North return to Manchester with a winning production of Mozart's comedy of errors.
Cosi Fan Tutti is one of the world's most popular operas. Army officers Ferrando and Guglielmo are happily engaged to sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella, believing them to be the most faithful women in the world. But philosopher Alfonso believes that all women are fickle and bets that the lovers will be unfaithful if put to the test. The officers agree to the bet and a hilarious story of mistaken identities ensues…
Opera North has a strong history of success with Cosi Fan Tutti, having mounted successful productions under the direction of Tim Albery in 2004 and 1997. Sung entirely in English and set firmly within the Age of Reason, Albery's latest re-interpretation of the Mozart masterpiece stars Opera North leads Victoria Simmonds (Adventures of Pinocchio, 2007) as Dorabella and Elizabeth Atherton (A Midsummer's Night's Dream, 2008) as sister Fiordiligi. The role of Ferrando is played by Allan Clayton, the lauded BBC New Generation Artist and Royal Philharmonic Society Award nominee.
