The Library Theatre announces a festival of the best new theatre seen in non-traditional venues around Manchester and Salford in 2007.
Venues like The King's Arms in Salford, Taurus in Manchester and the 24:7 festival all showcased energetic new theatre throughout 2007. Now The Library Theatre is giving theatregoers the opportunity to revisit these works in an exciting new festival to start 2008.
Re:Play comprises nine different plays including two Manchester Evening News Theatre Award Best New Play nominations and a script-in-hand performance of Father's Day, which was runner-up in Channel Four's The Play's The Thing competition in 2006.
The featured plays are:
- Different Perspectives, presented by Hercules Theatre, which tells the story of a challenging relationship between a Jamaican father and his son Wayne, who is being drawn into a life of crime.
- Mind The Gap, presented by Loci: A comedy drama about two lonely souls trapped on the last tube home, which has broken down... Nominated for MEN Theatre Award for Best New Play.
- An Englishman's Home, presented by Ensemble 52: Roger Beaumont has just been released from prison. Sat in the crumbling mansion he would kill for, her pours himself another drink and invites you to hear his story.
- The Game of Two Halves, presented by Mediamedea: Pete and his homophobic workmate Tom have tickets to a football match. Pete's boyfriend, Simon, invites himself along; but Pete hasn't told Tom he is gay...
- The Lullaby Witch, presented by Rookie Theatre: Cynical rock journalist Leona Cash investigates the case of a deranged serial killer who is stalking child musical prodigies. But when she ends up endangering the life of her best friend, her investigations take on a new meaning. Nominated for MEN Theatre Award for Best New Play.
- The Rehearsal, presented by Pigeon Theatre: Three couples prepare for their parts in a new show in this exhausting and intimate trilogy performed in the Horniman Bar.
- Karry Owky, presented by Vista Theatre: The highlight of road sweeper Mikky's week is the karaoke night at his local pub. But this is no ordinary night - can Mikky learn to overcome his prejudices through karaoke?
- Concrete Ribbons, presented by Pop Empires: When a coffin jams the lift in a high-rise building, a desperate couple pass the week enacting scenes for passing motorists from their balcony. But will this save their relationship? Suitable for ages 15+.
- Father's Day, script-in-hand reading: Nine-year-old Liam is desperately hoping his largely absent father, Simon, is coming to visit. But Simon has issues with his own father to deal with... Runner-up in Channel Four's The Play's The Thing in 2006.
