State of the Art: New York at Urbis until 6th September

Archived: This event was in 2009.
Check out the cutting edge of New York's contemporary art scene in this fascinating exhibition at Urbis.
A brand new exhibition at Urbis brings together 16 of New York's most exciting young artists in an exploration of the contemporary art scene in one of the world's most exciting cities. With a combination of famous works and new commissions (including Leon Reid IV's reinterpretation of the statue of Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln Square, which bemused bypassers in central Manchester until July), the exhibition fizzes with satire, energy and inspiration.
This is one in a series of exhibitions exploring the visual arts scenes of some of the world's leading cities. Individually they give a fascinating insight into the connection between individual artists and collective aesthetics, while the series as a while builds up an exhilarating picture of the state of contemporary visual arts across the world.
