Stuart Maconie to deliver LS Lowry Lecture 2008 3rd February
In Art
Archived: This event was in 2007.
The Radio 2 favourite will deliver the annual lecture on painter LS Lowry.
Stuart Maconie, champion of popular culture and author of Pies and Prejudice: In Search of the North, will be the third critical commentator to deliver a lecture on the works of the northwest's most famous painter.
He follows in the footsteps of distinguished writer and curator Julian Spalding, who delivered the first LS Lowry Lecture in 2006 and concluded that Lowry was the only modern British painter to have made a contribution to art on the world stage, and Mancunian novelist Howard Jacobson who illustrated earlier this year that Lowry portrayed feelings of desolation throughout his work, even in his most famous crowd scenes.
The LS Lowry Lecture is designed to give audiences a greater understanding of the painter's work. The lecture is delivered by a critical commentator or artist practicing in any discipline, who is given the opportunity to discuss any aspect of Lowry's work from their own perspective.
