The Evolutionist at Manchester Museum 1st August 2009 – 1st August 2010
In Museums
Manchester Museum hosts a year-long extravaganza to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth.
Charles Darwin's theory of evolution remains one of the biggest scientific advances of all time. But in today's society, where his theories are almost universally accepted, can we ever really understand the true impact of his teachings on the people who surrounded him?
In this year-long exhibition Manchester Museum hopes to bring a fresh perspective to Darwin's life and works. Highlights include: a brand new family-friendly interactive exhibition called Nature Discovery, where children and their parents can get their hands dirty; a photographic installation by local photographer Ben Hall documenting the South American landscapes and wildlife that inspired Darwin as he formulated his theories, and a major new temporary exhibition entitled Charles Darwin: Evolution Of A Scientist, which explores the life and times of the scientist.
There will also be talks, tours and other exciting events throughout the year. There has never been a better way to find out more about the grandfather of biology.
