The Hi-Tec World Squash Championships 2008 at the National Squash Centre 11th - 19th October
In Sports
Manchester's Sport City will play host to the World Squash Championships during the autumn.
This will be the first time that the championships have been held in England and as the biggest competition in world squash this is an ideal opportunity to sample the sport in Manchester.
Manchester’s National Squash Centre will be transformed during the World Championships with a custom-built main action area positioned in the centre of Sport City’s athletics hall. It will have a 360° seating environment and a capacity of 1200. Up to seven courts in total will be in operation at any one time.
The National Squash Centre is located in the same building as the English Institute of Sport and it was once the official venue for England Squash during the Commonwealth Games but is now home to England Squash.
All courts are state-of-the-art, with the ability to transform into either single or double courts at the push of a button. The show-court can be moved and positioned in the athletics hall with room for more than 1,000 spectators. Major tournaments held at the centre annually include The British Open and The National Championships.
