The Rambert in three new performances
In Dance
Archived: This event was in 2007.
Three pieces by leading choreographers Karole Armitage, Garry Stewart and Dharsan Singh Bhuller, complemented by a new short piece by talented Rambert choreographer Melanie Teall, will make up a new programme of work for the Rambert Dance Company.
Stylish choreographer Karole Armitage presents Gran Partita, which has not shown at the Lowry before. Balancing courtly convention with a hugely emotional core, this dance both complements and illuminates Mozart's sumptuous score.
Garry Stewart is an artistic director of Australian Dance Theatre and his sexy, high-energy new work teamed with the Rambert's techical brilliance is sure to delight fans.
The final dance of the evening, Dharsan Singh Bhuller's Stand and Stare, was specially commissioned to mark thirty years since the death of L S Lowry and therefore has a particular resonance with the venue. Dancers bring to life the automatons of Lowry's paintings before exploring the relationship between the painter and his wife. Provocative, powerful and gritty, the Rambert's performance of this dance is unforgettable.
To complement these established choreographers, a brand new short work from Rambert dancer/choreographer Melanie Teall will be performed. L’eveil, created through the Rambert's workshop process during July this year, explores feminity and female power through dances performed to Kurt Weill’s Je ne t’aime pas and Leslie Bricusse’s Feeling Good. Costumes inspired by world-renowned fashion designer Roland Mouret enhance the beauty of the spectacle.
