English National Ballet bring festive cheer to Manchester with Michael Corder's adaptation of The Snow Queen.
The ballet tells the story of two young friends, Kay and Gerder. When Kay catches a sliver of the Snow Queen's shattered magic mirror in his eye it makes his heart cold and bitter. Bewitched by the Snow Queen's beauty, he travels with her to her distant palace. Gerder searches the world over to find her friend - but will she find him? And will her love be enough to break the Snow Queen's evil spell?
Michael Corder's brand new adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson classic will be danced by English National Ballet at the Palace Theatre. It is his third new work for the company, following the award-winning successes of Cinderella and Melody on the Move.
The music is an arrangement of Prokofiev works (including his ballet The Stone Flower) by Julian Philips, comper in residence for Glyndebourne Opera and the design comes from Mark Bailey, who previously worked with Corder on Melody on the Move.
