The Walworth Farce

Druid Theatre Company's manic, exuberant and disquieting play comes to The Lowry.

It's 11 o'clock in the morning in a council flat on the Walworth Road in London. In two hours time, as is normal, three Irish men will have consumed six cans of Harp, fifteen crackers with spreadable cheese, ten pink biscuit wafers and one oven cooked chicken with a strange blue sauce. In two hours time, as is normal, five people will have been killed.

Enda Walsh's disturbing, edgy and ferociously funny play explores the compulsion for families to mythologise their own history as Dinny and his sons Blake and Sean obsessively reenact the events leading up to their flight from their hometown Cork.

Druid Theatre Company's production began as a Fringe production, before heading out on a world tour which has left critics singing the show's praises everywhere from London to New York. Now the company is set to revisit The Lowry, following its hugely successful staging of The Cripple of Inishmann in 2008.

With critics giving the show four and five star reviews and calling it ‘As brilliant as an original as you are likely to see in the theatre this year' (New York Sun), this disturbingly funny show is definitely worth taking a chance on - get tickets now.
