Lorna Luft

The Wizard of Oz

The classic tale is the big musical for this Christmas at The Lowry.

Follow the yellow brick road to The Lowry this Christmas for the most magical family musical of them all - The Wizard of Oz.  Almost every ticket was sold in 2004, so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Based on the classic Judy Garland film, all the famous songs and characters are here - Dorothy, the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion, singing such evergreen hits as We're Off To See The Wizard, Follow The Yellow Brick Road and of course the unforgettable, Over The Rainbow.

With magnificent special effects, including a dramatic tornado and a flying witch, you'll see Dorothy (and Toto) transported from her everyday, monochrome world on the farm in Kansas, to Munchkin City in the colourful land of Oz. With lavish costumes, energetic dance routines and stunning laser effects, The Wizard of Oz has all the sparkle families have come to expect from Christmas shows produced by The Lowry and Pelé Productions.

International star Lorna Luft, Judy Garland's daughter, stars as the Wicked Witch. Lorna's acclaimed career spans all facets of the entertainment industry. A versatile performer, she has found success as a vibrant concert singer, recording artist, motion picture, theatre and television actor, best-selling author and producer.

Born to legendary entertainer Judy Garland and producer Sid Luft, she began her career at age eleven on her mother's TV show and has flourished ever since. Most recently Lorna has been touring with the stage show, Songs My Mother Taught Me, and released her debut CD of the same name, produced by Barry Manilow and Colin R. Freeman. Lorna comments: "I'm so excited about performing in the show for which my mother is so well known. I can't wait to play a baddie as it's so different from anything I've done before. I always have such a good time in the UK and I'm really looking forward to appearing on stage at The Lowry."

So Disapponting
By Gina Cooper
We have been going to the Lowry for the past 5 years with our children to see pantomines - never have I been so disappointed - it was a show at you rather than interactive - no fun, no participation and no humour - what is a pantomine without all those ingredients! Very, very, disappointed.
