With so many talented writers blogging about Manchester, it's time to show your appreciation
Blogs are the most hotly debated area of literature right now. Journalists debate the effect blogging has on the print media. Publishers discuss whether a good blog always translates into a good book. PR types brainstorm ways of getting their products endorsed on blogs.
The blogosphere has a wide scope. On the one hand, there are a huge number of self indulgent, poorly written blogs that are little more than an online diary. On the other hand are blogs such as the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/), an American political blog so popular it earned its founder, Arianna Huffington, a place in the 2006 TIME 100 list of the world’s most influential people.
Manchester has a rich blogging scene itself, from informative arts and culture blogs like the Manchizzle to the weird and wonderful The 43 (now sadly finished though we remain in awe of Geoff, the man who managed to make the 43 bus route down Oxford Road into an insightful and witty look at humanity). Now Manchester Literature Festival has announced the second annual Manchester Blog Awards to celebrate the wealth of blogging talent around the city. There will be cash prizes for the following...
Best Political Blog
Best Personal Blog
Best New Blog (started since 1st September 2006)
Best Creative Writing On A Blog
Everyone is entitled to vote, simply by emailing the URL of your chosen blog plus where they are based (if you know) to mancblogawards@googlemail.com by 7th September.
To qualify, bloggers must live in Manchester or the immediate area. For more information, visit the Manchester Literature Festival.
