Waiting for Godot at the Library Theatre until 8th March

In Theatre

Archived: This event was in 2008.

The Library Theatre continues their season with a new production of Beckett’s classic tragic-comedy, Waiting for Godot.

The most famous of Beckett’s works, Waiting for Godot is an absurd, surreal masterpiece. Vladimir and Estragon meet up on an isolated country road for an appointment with the mysterious Godot. But Godot displays few signs of showing up, so Vladimir and Estragon are left to their own devices while they wait for him to put in an appearance.

In this production director Chris Honer presents the audience with a faithful interpretation of Beckett’s script, played out by a superb cast. Royal Shakespeare Company member David Fielder, who has appeared at the Library Theatre in The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui (1998), The Caucasian Chalk Circle (1999), and Death of a Salesman (2001), takes the role of Vladimir. Estragon is played by George Costigan, best known for his role as Bob in the 1986 comedy Rita, Sue and Bob too. Fielder and Costigan are joined by David Neilson, who played Roy Cropper in Coronation Street and RSC actor Russell Dixon.
