Whipping It Up at The Lowry until 24th November

The hilarious, timely satire starring Richard Wilson opens in Manchester following a sell-out run in London.
Whipping It Up sees David Cameron's government in power - with a tiny majority of three. When a piece of seemingly straighforward legislation suddenly becomes the catalyst for what could be a leadership coup, it is up to the Whips to keep everyone in line while boy scouts and ramblers are threatening to riot in Whitehall, five Tory rebels are on the loose and both the press and the opposition can smell blood...
As he wrote the play, Steve Thompson included imput from Michael Portillo, Gyles Brandreth and several other anonymous sources and, as a result, Whipping It Up is not only very funny but also very accurate, giving audiences a glimpse into the closely-guarded secret world of the Whips.
As journalist and former Conservative MP Matthew Parris says, "A romp with, for this ex-Tory-backbencher, many horrid shudders of recognitions. It wasn't a romp when it was you on the carpet."
