Whiskey Cats To Play Sankeys 7th September
In Gigs
Archived: This event was in 2007.
It's hard to categorise a band like Whiskey Cats. Mancs they may be (or adopted Mancs, at least) but they've turned away from the cliche of two guitarists, one drummer and a frontman in favour of an irresistibly cheerful blend of funk, disco, jazz, house and Latin grooves.
Their sound has won them support nationally from the programmers of Fruitstock, where they were selected to play alongside Arctic Monkeys, Mystery Jets, Quantic Soul Orchestra and Gilles Peterson. They have also had airtime on XFM Manchester, BBC 6 and Radio 2.
But it is at their gigs in Manchester where you experience the buzz about this band at full strength. Over the last three years Whiskey Cats have attracted a phenomenal fan base, seemingly selling out almost every venue they play. Having filled the 900-capacity Academy 2 earlier this year, they have just announced that they will be playing the 1500 capacity Academy 1 in November.
Before that, you can catch the band at Sankeys, where they will be performing a gig to welcome back Tribal Sessions. Last time they played the venue in 2006, their DJ set was as popular as the main room, so you can be sure that this will be a gig to remember.
